AIS140 (Automotive Industry Standard 140) is a set of guidelines and standards issued by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) to ensure the safety and security of passengers using public transportation in India. The standard specifies the requirements for vehicle tracking systems, emergency buttons, and other safety features in commercial vehicles, such as buses, taxis, and other public transportation vehicles.

AIS140-compliant vehicle tracking systems provide real-time information about the vehicle's location, speed, and direction. The systems are also equipped with panic buttons that passengers can use to send an emergency signal to a central monitoring station, which can then dispatch help to the vehicle's location.

In addition to ensuring passenger safety, AIS140-compliant systems help transportation companies optimize their fleet management and improve operational efficiency. They provide data on fuel consumption, vehicle performance, and driver behavior, which can be used to reduce costs and enhance the quality of service.

The implementation of AIS140 has been made mandatory by the Indian government for all public transport vehicles in India. The standard aims to enhance the safety and security of passengers using public transportation and reduce the number of accidents and incidents on Indian roads.
